Customs department on Thursday claimed to have foiled a smuggling bid and confiscated a parcel containing gems and jewellry worth Rs 6.3 million at airport. According to official sources, action was taken on a tip-off, which revealed that attempt would be made to smuggle drugs/valuable goods in the postal mail from Thai Airways. Reacting on it, the team constituted for rummaging and patrolling to avert said smuggling bid intercepted four bags arrived from Thai Airline flight No TG-507 after strict surveillance on the postal mail arriving from Thailand.

The team after thorough examination recovered silver jewellery and semi precious stones from these bags. Three bags contained 55 kilograms of jewellery weighing while semi precious stones weighing 15 kilograms were found from one bag. The value of seized ornaments and stones is estimated to Rs 6.3 million. The case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
